Points of View

Points of View

I am always ready to change the way I see things, especially when they come from the outside. I do not listen to my own mind, but I listen carefully to - and take very seriously - the encounters and events that life sends me as messages.
                                 Anne Ducrocq

We know that the only stable thing in life is change; situations, people, points of view. What I thought was right and true yesterday might not feel valid today.
I want - and need - to question the points of view I took over from my parents, the ones I learned at school or later in life. The world changes, people around me change, and so do I.

Being flexible is key. For me it means to be open-minded to the encounters and events that life sends me as messages and adapt my points of view to new situations.

I Think, Therefore…

I Think, Therefore…

Descartes said, “I think, therefore I am”. In light of the Buddha’s teaching, you might say: “I think, therefore I am… not here.” You are lost in your thinking, so you are really not here. For you to truly be here, thinking has to stop.  As you are practicing mindfulness of the breath, the object of your attention is simply the breath. You stop thinking about the past, the future, your pain, your plans, and so forth, and you start to be really here, body and mind united.
                                                                 Thich Nhat Hanh

Enjoy your breath. Enjoy being here. Enjoy being alive!

Smile

Smile

A smile is the light in the window of your face that tells people you're at home.
Author Unknown

In our busy lives we’re not always actually there, centred in ourselves. Our thoughts are already further away, at the next point in our agenda, or we’re still dealing with something that happened yesterday… When you feel stressed, you are not at home in yourself.

Doesn’t it look cosy and welcoming when there’s light in the window of a home? It’s the same thing with a human being. When you relax and smile, the light goes on in your heart - and immediately it starts to shine through the windows of your eyes.

And people know that you’re at home.

Heart Language

Danke, liebe Sabina!

Heart Language

Heart language has one thing in common the world over. It is the quiet offering of understanding to others without the demand of being understood oneself.
                                                                 Catherine Ingram

This is a task of a lifetime: training in listening to others without adding your own personal comments. Stopping the “me and I” thinking and simply being there for the other person. Offering him or her your quiet understanding.

I love the term Heart Language, because it’s when I connect to my heart that I succeed in silencing the mind’s chatter and concentrating on the other person.

There will come a day when I need somebody else’s undivided attention. I am sure that life will lead me to a friend who practices Heart Language and who can offer me that understanding.
